Dungeons & Dragons Spell Cards
YEAR:
2025
ABOUT THE PROJECT:
An updated version of the tabletop roleplaying game Dungeons & Dragons was released in 2024, including some changes to the spells that players can use. While there are digital options for keeping track of them, a lot of players prefer to use printed products. I designed a set of 391 spell cards and 9 different back designs based on the 2024 edition of the D&D Player's Handbook. I released them on Etsy as digital downloads so that players can print them at home.
THE LITTLE THINGS:
Legibility: These cards are available in two size options. The first option is the same size as tarot cards, which is a convenient size when you don't have a lot of table room. However, I know a lot of players (including me!) prefer larger font sizes, so I also created "Jumbo" versions.
Printing: Throughout the design process, I struggled with getting the front and back sides of the cards to align correctly. It made any kind of symmetrical back designs obviously off-center. I knew that other people would have the same frustration when using their home printers. To overcome that problem, I created an asymmetrical back design that disguises printer misalignment.
